FAQ

How will the iPad handle graphics/Cad applications?

The iPad is not intended for Graphics applications. Computer laboratories will be maintained for such specialist software.

Can students use their iPads for reading?

Yes, as long as the student is reading an ebook.

Will the 16G iPad have enough memory to do all school work and have room for my child's pictures, games and music?

The number of photos and pictures, games and music is a family decision.  It is recommended that the iPad is a device for learning. We would suggest that games and photos be limited as it will use up needed storage space on the iPad and limits educational use. If the family is happy for pictures, games and music to also be stored on the iPad, they may need to consider a device with larger memory.

What technical support will be provided by the school for student iPads?

Some technical support can be provided by the classroom teacher for basic functions. Further support can be provided by the Learning Technologies Coordinator and the IT Help Desk located near the Library.

Any advice regarding iPad use at home?

Students can be using the device to complete homework or assessments given in class. This work should be completed in a central location i.e around the dining table rather than unsupervised in their bedroom. The parent obviously has outright control in determining the use of any technologies in the home setting. At the end of the night the iPad should be left to charge overnight in a common area, not in the child’s bedroom. Please follow the links at the Tips page of this site for more helpful hints for parents.

Problem solvers

It is often stated many careers that students entering high school will pursue in their working life do not exist yet! Our students need to be independant learners and problem solvers to cope with the many challenges ahead.

Adaptability

The only constant in life is change. This is especially true in education. Those who can adapt to a changing environment, whether that be school, work or leisure, will be best equipped to lead a fulfilling life,

Creativity

Rather than passive consumers of information students will become active creators of information. We see this now with blogs, wikis, web 2 access and social networking. The digital age has empowered us to be more creative and critical thinkers.
