FAQ
How do students save data?
Students can save all work to the device itself, through cloud technology or email it to themselves. It is possible to save to a number of cloud storage options then download to a computer application. Students will be given a school email account and attached to this is a cloud storage account called Google Drive. Students will be taught how to set up and use these accounts. Students may wish to sign up for their own personal cloud storage account(s). Common ones are Dropbox and Box and come with a free account of limited storage.
How many years will this iPad last?
Like most devices, if cared for according to the guidelines suggested by Apple it may last for a significant amount of time. One could anticipate 2 - 4 years.
Do I have to buy Apps for the iPad or are they provided by the school?
The College has been able to budget for Core Paid apps. The college is able to access Apple Volume Purchasing whereby most apps come at a 50% discount. So it is most economical for the College to purchase these apps. Paid apps will be distributed to students via their compulsory enrolment in Airwatch. These apps remain the property of the College. When students unenroll from the College, these apps will be wiped from the student's ipad. A list of the distributed paid apps can be found at the Apps link on this site.
Who is responsible for syncing the iPad? Will I lose any apps that are synced off another computer?
Students could sync the iPad to a home computer for backup purposes. It is not necessary to sync to an iTunes account on a home computer. Indeed, you should only do this if you are familiar with iTunes and syncing. Apps will not be lost as they can be retrieved from the Purchased category at the App Store. You will lose all apps and data if you change your Apple ID so it is important to maintain the Apple ID that was used to setup the iPad.
