FAQ

At any stage of my child’s schooling are they going to be using laptop style computers or is it envisaged that the iPad should last for all secondary years?

Technology is changing at such a rapid rate that it is very difficult to determine even the style of device that will be in place in as little as four years time. Our iPad program is designed for Years 7 -10. Senior students operate under a BYOD program (Bring Your Own Device) where they can bring either an iPad or laptop.

Why iPads and not another tablet device which might be cheaper?

In terms of enhancing learning research has indicated that this device and its educational Applications is the most appropriate for what we as a school are trying to achieve. There are cheaper devices on the market; however like many things you tend to get what you pay for. Among other benefits an Apple device does not require highly expensive spyware to be installed, updated and resubscribed, and therefore maintenance costs associated with viruses are not applicable.

Can I get an iPad mini or even an iPod touch?

The screen of the iPad Mini is significantly smaller which may pose a problem.  The school has designated a minimum size for device screens at 9.7". For this reason we cannot recommend the iPad mini or iPod touch.

Are your teachers up to speed with this technology?

Teachers are constantly undergoing professional development updating their skills to effectively use the iPad in the classroom.

How often will my child be using this device at school?

The iPad is a tool for learning and will be used across all subjects, therefore will be used every day in conjunction with traditional learning tools.

Problem solvers

It is often stated many careers that students entering high school will pursue in their working life do not exist yet! Our students need to be independant learners and problem solvers to cope with the many challenges ahead.

Adaptability

The only constant in life is change. This is especially true in education. Those who can adapt to a changing environment, whether that be school, work or leisure, will be best equipped to lead a fulfilling life,
