College approved laptop specifications and procedures to order.

What factors should I take into consideration when choosing a laptop?

Students/Families need to be aware of the following general requirements for a laptop option:

  • The laptop/notebook should be under 3 years old and running an up to date operating system.

  • If using a Windows operating system, an up to date antivirus program must be installed.

  • The laptop/notebook needs to have a battery life of at least 6 hours to last a full school day.

  • The laptop/notebook needs to be portable and comfortable for the student to carry. Laptops should be no bigger than a 13" screen size for the sake of portability.

  • Careful consideration should be given to warranty details. Warranty repairs done locally as opposed to 'return to base' will mean faster repair times if there is a fault with your device.

  • The school environment is quite different from using your laptop/notebook at home. Is your laptop/notebook rugged enough or well protected to be able to handle this environment? Has the owner developed good habits in regard to looking after their possessions especially such an expensive piece of equipment?
