Read this document to understand the Standard Technology Levels for Senior subjects.
This will guide your choice of device.

Device Options

OPTION 1: BYOD Student owned device - STANDARD TO LEVEL 2 (see Standards Levels)

Students will supply their own device e.g iPad tablet or laptop/notebook. This device

  • is unable to connect to the College network but will be able to access the WIFI internet connection

  • gives students full ownership and responsibility for the licensing of software (owned by the student)

  • is unable to print at the College.(you can print from College computers)

  • gives students full responsibility for their own warranty and repairs.

OPTION 2: BYOD Student owned College approved laptop - LEVEL 3 (see Standards Levels)

The student/family may purchase a Lismore CSO (Catholic Schools Office) tested and approved laptop (approximate cost $1200) which is managed by the College. The student will then have the ability to

  • connect to the College network (access G and H drives) and access the College internet connection

  • access College software and licensing for the duration of enrolment (no extra cost)

  • print at the College from this laptop

  • have warranty and repairs coordinated through the College.

Families will order through the College computer supplier (see form below). How to order as well as the current model, specifications and pricing are detailed in this form. Allow lead time of 4 weeks to process your order.

If you need to purchase a laptop, this option should be given serious consideration. Refer to the Laptop page for details on how to order a College approved laptop

What other factors should I take into consideration when choosing a device?

Students/Families need to be aware of the following general requirements for any device option:

  • Device should be under 3 years old and running an up to date operating system.

  • If using a Windows operating system, an up to date antivirus program must be installed.

  • Device needs to have a battery life of at least 6 hours to last a full school day. It is the responsibility of each student to fully charge their device at home each night. We do not want students having to carry chargers to school.

  • Device needs to be portable and comfortable for the student to carry. The iPad is ideal for this. Laptops should be no bigger than a 13" screen size for the sake of portability. Recommended minimum screen size is 9.7”

  • Careful consideration should be given to warranty details. Warranty repairs done locally as opposed to 'return to base' will mean faster repair times if there is a fault with your device.

  • The school environment is quite different from using your device at home. Is your chosen device rugged enough or well protected to be able to handle this environment? Has the owner developed good habits in regard to looking after their possessions especially such an expensive piece of equipment?

If you require further clarification on these options and/or technology levels you may use the Contact page of this site to submit your query or call the College and direct your enquiries to the Learning Technologies Coordinator.
